I remember hemming and hawing about dropping so much money for my first Lancaster Farm Fresh Co-op CSA (Community Supported Agriculture) share. A handful of seasons later, I can hardly imagine living without it, so I’m happy to report that LFFC, a co-op of over 100 farms in southeast Pennsylvania, will be delivering weekly to Greenbelt this summer.
A CSA share is a commitment. Both to more sustainable food systems and to cooking and eating your way through a whole box week after week. For the first one, you can read more about that elsewhere. For the second, you can read more about that here.
If you don’t eat everything in the box and don’t gift your surplus to someone who will, you’re just wasting great food that a lot of resources have gone into creating. Since I’ve already adapted my life to a weekly box, this blog might help those who are new to CSA, have kids or other commitments to juggle, or just want to read something.
Buy a Greenbelt Medium produce share to follow along. Small and Large shares will be different, obviously, but likely there will be some overlap in contents or in useful tips. I’ll post about planning for the next week and eating through the current week.
