The Greenbelt location didn’t reach the minimum number of members to be a Winter site. Since Riverdale Park is also not a Winter host this year, the next closest is Mt. Rainier. Takoma Park is just a smidge farther, if that direction of travel is useful for anyone. I worked my way through some well-stored Fall vegetables before joining Mt. Rainier at the pro-rated price, thus the Week 3 start.
Mt. Rainier Week 3 contents:
- Brussels Sprouts
- Jerusalem Artichokes
- Orange Carrots
- Purple Daikon Radishes
- Purple Sweet Potatoes
- Red Butterhead Lettuce
- Sweet Onions
Brussels sprouts: Peanut butter popped into my head this week, something like a gado gado sauce. Searching came up with 2 intriguing recipes: Crispy Roasted Brussels sprouts with Edamame and Peanut Sauce recipe or this New Zealand peanut butter brand’s recipe that roasts the sprouts in the peanut butter (instead of separately) Roasted sesame peanut brussel sprouts recipe.
Onions: Ultimate guide to how to caramelize and a French onion soup recipe.
Purple daikons: Especially beautiful raw or pickled. Lightly dressed daikon with sesame side dish.
Carrots: A go-to this winter has been Maple and Miso Glazed Roasted Carrots. You can sub honey for the maple syrup. Did you know there’s a honey seller in Berwyn Heights?
Purple sweet potatoes: A compilation of 20 purple potato recipes, from simple to intense. Most intriguing to me is the gorgeous Purple Sweet Potato with Gingerbread Crust and the vegan Purple Sweet Potato Cashew Cream Soup.
Combination recipes: Here are a couple of recipes that will knock out a couple of vegetables at once:
