The Winter share box from this past Tuesday.

  • Celery – FL
  • Chioggia Beets
  • Green Garlic
  • Jerusalem Artichokes
  • Kossak Kohlrabi
  • Orange Carrots
  • Red Radishes
  • Spinach

I’ve been very busy recently and haven’t been able to write and compile as much. Squeaking out some time this week for recipes:

The “FL” means the celery is from Florida. LFFC occasionally does this with similar farms to ensure that customers get a good selection. As we move from winter to spring produce-wise, here’s a celery salad that could also be combined with some of the strategies for winter salads from past posts.

Green garlic looks like scallion, and can be stored and used similarly. Still have potatoes from previous weeks? Try Mini potato pancakes with Green Garlic and Chives.

This winter has been heavy on the turnips and carrots. I just used up 3 pounds of carrots that had been languishing in the refrigerator on this Carrot Cake recipe.

Yesterday, I had tacos from a food truck that was accompanied with slices of raw red radishes. Apparently radish with Mexican food is a thing and this radish slaw with fish tacos could be tasty. Or maybe a riff on Salvadorean curtido using radish instead of cabbage? Curtido recipes also use carrots and I think you could throw in kohlrabi too.

Sidenote: I think the number one concern people have with Winter Season CSA is a deluge of squash and cabbage. I have not had a single squash or cabbage (Weeks 4 through 11)!
