Fava beans typically require 2 steps to get to the good stuff: shell, then peel the light green skin off the bean itself. A 30-minute freeze-thaw right before peeling the skin may make the peeling step easier. The pod is edible though, such as fried, though that might be best on younger/smaller pods than this batch.
